Auto restoration, restoring original plating

+++

Doing some research on auto restoration and wanted to know if the cad plating on many GM parts can be redone by a home hobbyist. Are there any companies that offer kits? Are there environmental issues involved?

Thanks,

You probably want to switch zinc plating. Times have changed: cadmium is a toxic, cumulative, metal poison like mercury and lead, and should not be used unless its unique combination of properties is indispensable.
