Testing silver plate with sulfurated potash [Rhode Island]

+++

I work with a company that warehouses and distributes jewelry. A customer said that they are testing silver plated jewelry with a 2% sulfurated potash test with a 2 minute dip and see if the silver plate tarnishes. Does anyone know what the chemicals are and the mix is of a 2% sulfurated potash.

Sulfurated potash aka Liver Of Sulphur [linked by editor to product info at MisterArt] has been used for generations to make silver black for an antique finish. Your customer must be testing to see if the items have been properly lacquered or other wise protected from tarnish.
