Chromate conversion (alodine 1200)

For corrosion protection of an aluminium part of a helicopter our
customer is requesting chromate conversion of aluminium alloys using
Alodine 1200.
I would like to have a detailed description of this process since
we are not familiar with it.
I would also like to know if there is any restriction to use this
process due to its carcinogenic potential.

The product you named is the proprietary name for an aluminum
chromate conversion coating that meets USA MIL C 5541f, yes it is
carcinogenic, and the rinse water effluent has to be treated and the
sludge dumped in an "approved" waste dump.Alternate finishes are in
demand but so far nothing approaches the protection offered by
aluminum chromate. Europe (EU) has almost completely banned any
chromate conversion coatings. Several other proprietary products are
readily availbale across the globe.
