Letter 17592
Pennies
++
Can you help me form a hypothesis with apple, orange, and grape
juice cleaning pennies?
Kaelly

Sure, Kaelly. A hypothesis is an assumption that you wish to
demonstrate or disprove by experiment. So, between what you already
know about apple juice, orange juice, grape juice, and pennies; and
your intuition and gut feelings, give us a statement that you think
is probably true, but do not know for sure if it's true, and which
you think should be provable or disprovable by an experiement which
you can do. Voila, you have formed an hypothesis.
So what do you think is probably true, but you do not know for
sure if it's true, and you think you can prove or disprove by
experiment?

Ed. note: Sorry, but for every metal finisher in
the world there are a thousand students, and we are drowning under
variations on this question which we've answered hundreds of times
already. It's time for the students to read our F.A.Q. on the
subject rather than to keep asking us to
answer the question for them individually
