Galvanealed or galvanized doors and frames [New York]

++

Recently a door company substituted galvannealed doors and frames instead of the galvanized doors and frames that I asked for. They stated that it is as good or better than what we asked for because it's easier to paint and more durable than the galvanized doors. Is this true?

If you're going to paint them, galvannealed is what you want. Almost all automobiles today are made of painted galvannealed steel and it holds up amazingly well to an incredibly tough environment.

Yes I believe that what they told you is true.. Galvannial is the trade name of Bethlehem Steel's zinc-aluminum alloy. It has been reported to have better corrosion resistance and less voluminuous corrosion products, and when chromated , better paint adhesion and protection.

I regularly specify gavlanealed doors and frames for all the reasons stated. You shouldn't have trouble with them.
