Crevice rust in stainless steel

++

Hi,

I have a sailboat and I've recently replaced the stainless steel rigging. I've already notice some rusting in the crevices where the cables meet the deck fittings. Can I use the "hot citric acid" method to clean out the rust and then use varnish to seal that area?

Thanks,
