Oxidation of Aluminum siding

++

I had aluminum siding put in about 10 years ago and it is oxidizing. The company will not use the warranty because they said the problem is mildew. Can mildew ruin aluminum siding?

Hi, Richard. I don't think mildew can actually eat aluminum, but it could eat the paint, and treating it with bleach could dissolve aluminum.

Maybe you could pressure wash it, then give it a coat of Everbrite? This is a product from a supporting of this website, and it is a clearcoat intended to improve the appearance of aluminum siding. The supplier says if the siding looks good when it's wet (with water), it will look good with Everbrite. If water doesn't improve the appearance of the siding, the clearcoat probably won't either. Good luck.
