Polishing of small 304 stainless steel
pressed components
Dear Sirs,
We manufacture small components made of 304 Stainless steel. Our
components are manufactured by punching and die forming process. We
need to polish these components and get a mirror polish. Please guide
me for polishing these components. At present we are electropolishing
these components. But because these components are very small ( 5 mm
cu ) in size handling is very difficult during polishing. The
thickness of the stainless steel shim we use ranges from 0.2 mm to
0.35 mm .
Please let me know
1. Type of polishing I am doing is correct? I have to get a mirror
polish
2. Any other type of polish is possible? I have tried centrifugal
, vibratory polish & results were not encouraging , Buffing is
very difficult.
Thank you for your valuable guidance,

Dear Sir,
The type of polishing that would suit your kind of job would be
vibratory polish. Your inquiry states that you have tried this
option. May be you are not using the required media and chemicals for
polishing. The same finish (mirror finish) is required by MINT (where
coins are made), and they are using the same process and the material
is also SS.
