Number printing on steel by chemical etching 

Which chemical to be used for printing a number on Hardened Steel surface? The color of print required is WHITE.

Dear SIR:

Steel is etched by making it as a anode in a solution of acidified {FERRIC CHLORIDE} and the cathode will be lead with external D.C current. If you wish the color of the print to be to be white so the background have to be black many kinds of finish will give you the black color like

1-black nickel
2-black chrome
3-oxidizing of steel with black oxide .....e .t.c
