Letter 11021 Crossed-cylinder wear test for hard chrome?
Hi, I'm doing a project on hard chrome plating on steel, now I've got several plated samples to be tested. I'd like to know, apart from Taber test, are there any other wear tests easy to conduct? My supervisor told me that I could probably go with crossed-cylinder test using drill machine (using PVC rod, rubbed against the curved surface of the plated cylindrical sample). This sample is clamped on a table that's connected to computer and data acquisition program called DT-VEE. Certain load might be applied later. The problem is, is this kind of test suitable for wear test? Because I don't think DT-VEE gives appropriate results. For more info, the deposited chrome on my samples is 20-200 microns (about 0.0008" - 0.008"). Thank you very much for your help, really appreciate that. Buddy Joe
