Type of Teflon for best wear
resistance
Letter 10066
Hi,
Our fan blower was Teflon coated in order to avoid the attack from
acid. It is a dark colored materials but I am not sure about the
precise formulation. After several months, some areas were worn away
especially where the fan body was in contact with the casing(both are
aluminium). I would like to know which type of Teflon coating should
we choose in order to improve the wearing phenomenon.
Thanks in advance,

Hi Ning!
Firstly, your fan should NOT have had any areas which are
touching! An absolute NO from a fan manufacturing viewpoint because
no matter what 'coating' you applied, it would wear off.(The only
'touching' point would be the shaft bearings.)
Re the Teflon coating, doesn't Dupont have 6 or so so-called
teflons from the top of the line PTFE downwards? I cannot answer what
type of Teflon coating was used.
Which brings up, if I may, another point. Fans often have some
pretty high tip speeds. Fans should not be subjected to abrasion
because 'particles' would wear away the coating. That Teflon coating
itself would probably be micro thin which sure doesn't help matters.
If you have an acidic condition, do two things. l) Protect the fan
(via a scrubber or high efficiency mist eliminator) from attack 2)
use a plastic fan!
Coating an aluminum fan is probably cheap ... but NOT in the long
run if acids prevail.
Cheers!
