How to Paint Polished Brass

Is there a way to successfully paint a polished brass surface? If so what is it?

Hi, Virginia. Brass forms a thin skin of tarnish on it which paint does not stick to very well. The best approach is a Self-Etching Primer [linked by editor to product info at Amazon] which eats its way into the metal.
