Recycling and Refining Computer Scrap

I am very interested in refining my own precious metals from computer scrap and also auto catalyst. I would greatly appreciate any info you could give me on how to do this. Also, do you use a furnace or chemicals? I am also trying to find the best supplier of chemicals and furnaces. There isn't a lot of info out there when it comes to recycling precious metals. Is there a good web site that tells what all to keep off the computer boards?

I too am searching the net for information, but haven't had much luck. There are a lot of companies advertising to pick up scrap computers from business, but not on refining. I would settle for a place I could sell the components( circuit boards, hard drives,CPU's, monitors, etc.) If anyone finds any information let me know.

Hi, folks. We have quite a number of threads on this topic, and they include pretty extensive detail regarding all of these questions. Please see letters 771b, 18889 and 27423 for three of them, then use the search engine for many more.

Good luck, but please realize that the major environmental organizations do not like the idea of individuals doing this recycling, for two main reasons. First, since it's done in an uncontrolled environment, it spreads the toxins everywhere; second, 'cherry picking' of the gold condemns all the rest of the toxins to being landfilled instead of recovered.
