Standards for Electropolishing

-----

Can you please tell me if there are any standards for electropolishing. I work for a medical device manufacturer and we need to include this information on our drawings for electropolished parts. It seems that each electropolisher that we have spoken to has their own standards. thanx,

Tony Bright

Yes there are. One that I've seen is ASTM F86 [link is to spec at TechStreet]-76 "Surface Preparation and Marking of Metallic Surgical Implants" which references electropolishing. Another is B912 [link is to spec at TechStreet], on "Passivation of Stainless Steels Using Electropolishing" There probably are other related specs.

Another approach would be to reference a specific patent or process if desired (these are listed handily in Durney's "Electroplating Engineering Handbook".
