Need to make anchor locker in boat slippery
Q. When we pull up our anchor, the rope goes into the anchor locker. It is supposed to slide down into the deeper part of the anchor locker but it doesn't. Instead it mounts up directly under the hole where it goes into the locker and then someone has to manually push it down into the deeper section of the locker. So I am looking for something that could be applied to rough fiberglass so the rope will slide down where it belongs! Any ideas?

A. Hi cousin Alice. I was in Lake George 2 months ago and it was already too cold to think about boats. Sit by the fireplace and worry about it in the spring.
It sounds like a hairy rope is catching on hairy fiberglass. Fiberglass is supposed to have a "gel coat" on it, which apparently has abraded away by now. Wearing a dust mask, I would sand the fiberglass to try to remove most of the hairy protuberances, then apply either a gel-coat kit or even just paint it with a couple of coats of two-part epoxy. Although you could line it with sheets of something slippery, that would slightly reduce the dimensions, maybe making the problem worse, and any screws or edges would be another catch point.
