Metal finishing Q&As since 1989

Metal Lacquers
I am trying to find a durable coating for aluminum that can be applied by a brush, spray or dip. I have come across some thermoplastic lacquers but they are clear. I would like to have a coating that can be slightly colored/tinted. I still want the surface of the metal to shine through. The coating would be decorative in nature. I am not interested in anodizing because the color and surface is not durable enough. I have come across some ceramic coatings that make metal look like it is anodized, but I am wondering if there is something else out there.Chip and wear resistance is important.
Any assistance on the matter would be greatly appreciated.

Clear urethane as used on automobiles is pretty tough and durable. It can be tinted to give some color. Ask your local auto paint supplier.
